Pros&Cons: Obesity

The article written about obesity and "fat letters" by Joanne Eglash totally surprised me. It is such an epidemic that we have come to the point where we have to send "fat letters" home to the students who are overweight. I am not going to say that there is not an obesity problem going on in our society but I think there are certain ways to go about it , and that is not one of them. Sending those letters, is very demeaning to the children who are recieving them, and even to the parents of the children as well. Though I think the letters shouldn't be sent out, I see  both how they are very wrong, and how they are trying to help.
I personally think the "fat letters" are wrong because they will provoke bullying if other students do happen to find out. Bullying is a big problem that we have everywhere ; online, in school, in your neighborhood. Especially if you are more bigger tha. Students your age, or different, others tend to judge you. Bullying happens the most because I physical appearance, in my opinion. Another reason why these letters shouldn't be sent home is because I feel it will make the child feel horrible about themselves. It might cause them to go to extreme measures like anorexia, or bolemia, and/or maybe even depression. How would you like to get a letter saying that you are fat ? I don't think anybody would be pleased to open a letter like that.
I, however get the schools' perspective of the whole "fat letter," and how it could be beneficial to the kids. These letters might open the parents and the children's eyes to realization that maybe they do need to go on a diet, and/or excercise. Since obesity is an epidemic in our country and it is affecting people's health and living expectancy. Another reason why this might help is because it could cause awareness and start more health programs in schools to help the problem.
I came to the conclusion that I am totally against this still. I think is it so sad and cruel for them to give them letters about their physical appearance.
